Wiltshire Good Neighbours

Welcome to Wiltshire Good Neighbours—

a free service for the older residents of Wiltshire.

My name is Ellen Blacker and I am your local

So what is Wiltshire Good Neighbours?

Wiltshire Good Neighbours is aimed at older people in rural communities across the county. This Scheme seeks to build a bridge between older more vulnerable members of our communities and the services that can improve the quality of life they have. This can make life easier and enable individuals to stay in their own homes with a greater sense of wellbeing.  It does this through a local Good Neighbour Co-ordinator who will listen to clients and give them information and support to access a range of services such as:

Help with personal care                                                                                Befriending service

Advice on benefits                                                                          Healthcare needs

Social activities                                                                                  Financial concerns

Transport                                                                                            Heating costs

(If you are a younger person who has health concerns or a disability that proves challenging, I may be able to help you, please contact me to discuss)

As your Good Neighbour Co-ordinator, what can I do?

There are a huge number of organisations and services available to help older people, this in itself can be a significant problem as it is not always easy to identify where best to go for help. By visiting clients in their home and listening to what they have to say about their needs, I can identify which organisations are best suited to deal with each individual client’s situation and we then refer or support a client to access that service.  I will always follow up the referrals made to ensure that clients have received the service they needed.  I work flexible hours, so can be available at a time that suits clients and their families – including evenings and weekends if necessary.

No question too silly; no problem too trivial

What can you do to help?

As Good Neighbour Co-ordinator for this area, I am increasingly aware of the hidden needs among older members of our communities and the incredible support network that is available to them. We all have contact with older members of our villages so please bear “Good Neighbours” in mind and let them know about the service we can offer and encourage them to use what is on offer.

So who runs Wiltshire Good Neighbours?

The Good Neighbour Scheme is a signposting service managed by Community First, a registered charity who seek to strengthen our rural communities.  This Scheme is funded by Wiltshire Council.
